Halifax changes parks and recreation registration platform

Starting with summer camp registration next month, residents will be using the new platform to sign up for programs, rent space in city facilities and join drop-in classes.

New system is 'more user-friendly and easier to navigate,' says municipal official

The Halifax municipality is moving to a new online platform to register for recreation programs and services ahead of the summer season.

The municipality announced Tuesday that starting with summer camp registration — which begins on April 14 — residents will be using the new platform to register for programs, rent space in city facilities and sign up for drop-in classes.

Greg MacIsaac, manager of business services for parks and recreation, said in an interview that the new platform is "more user-friendly and easier to navigate."

The new system gives users the ability to search for programs and activities based on facility, community and recreation type, among other categories, MacIsaac said.

As of Tuesday, users are able to access both systems on the municipality's recreation program website. Residents will be able to sign up for spring activities and programs using the old system until June 30.

MacIsaac said while the new system won't roll out completely until April 1, people can still use it now to create new usernames and passwords they'll need for access.

The new platform site says that residents without an active facility membership will need to create a new user profile. Those with an active membership will have to set up a new password and link their payment information to make online payments.
