Water system back up and running after service disruption in Glace Bay area

The Glace Bay water treatment plant is now fully operational, a day after Cape Breton residents served by the plant were asked not to use water unless necessary while water main breaks were repaired.

At 8 a.m. Sunday, the Cape Breton Regional Municipality issued an update on its website to inform affected residents that the system was fully operational and that tank levels had been restored. 

There is no longer any need to conserve water, the municipality said.

An emergency alert issued at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday said the disruption affected Glace Bay, Dominion, Reserve Mines, Birch Grove, Port Morien, Donkin and Tower Road.

CBRM Mayor Amanda McDougall said on Saturday there were two water main breaks. Both had been located and repairs were underway.
