RCMP in Nova Scotia are investigating a two-vehicle collision Sunday afternoon in Antigonish County that killed one woman and injured six people.

The head-on crash occurred on Highway 7 in Lochaber around 3:10 p.m. local time, police said in a news release.

 A 70-year-old woman who was a passenger in a southbound SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said she was from Bickerton West.

The driver of the SUV, a 74-year-old man also from Bickerton West, suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to hospital.

All five occupants of the other vehicle — three adults and two children from Antigonish — were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
