Dartmouth natural gas leak caused by snow pressure on line

Heritage Gas says a natural gas leak in Dartmouth has been contained and crews are now repairing the line.

Members of Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency and Halifax Regional Police shut down part of Wright Avenue in Dartmouth to investigate, but it has now reopened.

Fire Capt. Jim Gates says snow pressure on a meter box caused the gas line to disconnect. One commercial building was evacuated.

Heritage Gas says it's important that customers make sure gas meters are free of snow and ice. It also says snow plow operators should be careful not to cause damage when removing snow.
