Thousands of customers lose power after crash near Armdale Roundabout

According to Nova Scotia Power's outage map, more than 4,000 customers lost electricity Monday night. Halifax Regional Police said a motor vehicle crash led to downed power lines.

Thousands of Nova Scotia Power customers in Halifax lost electricity Monday night after a motor vehicle collision at the Armdale Roundabout.

The vehicle struck a power pole in the roundabout near Joseph Howe Drive and caused it to fall, bringing down power lines in the area, Halifax Regional Police said in a news release.

Officers arrested the driver after seeing signs of impairment, the release said, and charges are anticipated.

The 51-year-old man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The road was closed for several hours as the damage to lines was repaired.

There were 4,032 customers without power in the Armdale, Melville Cove and Cowie Hill area as of 9:30 p.m., according to Nova Scotia Power's outage map. Power was later restored.
