Burnside jail corrections officer charged with drug trafficking

A provincial corrections officer has been arrested in connection with an alleged drug trafficking operation at a Dartmouth jail.

A provincial corrections officer has been arrested in connection with an alleged drug trafficking operation at a Dartmouth jail.

On Wednesday, officers with the RCMP's intelligence unit, Halifax Regional Police and Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility arrested the 39-year-old man in Shubenacadie. He is employed at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility in Burnside. 

The investigation began in July. Police allege the corrections officer is responsible for trafficking drugs within the Burnside jail.

Police say they seized drugs and cash during the investigation. 

The corrections officer is facing charges of trafficking in a controlled substance, possessing proceeds of crime and breach of trust.

He's scheduled to appear in Shubenacadie provincial court on Dec. 7.
