A former Nova Scotia man is facing human trafficking charges for incidents that allegedly happened between 2007 and 2010.

RCMP arrested Darrell Robert William Fisher, 36, earlier this month in Edmonton.

Fisher was flown back to Halifax, where he faces 10 charges, including living off the avails of prostitution, making child pornography, sexual assault and uttering threats.

He also faces two drug charges for allegedly trafficking in cocaine and ecstasy. He has been released on conditions and will return to court next month.

Cpl. Dave Lane of the RCMP's human trafficking unit said Fisher was arrested as part of an investigation code-named Operation Hypnosis, which is looking into allegations of historical offences.

He is the only suspect arrested so far, but Lane said the investigation is continuing.

"The fact that this is a historical case I think is significant because it's rare," Lane said. "It's fair to say it's rare to get victims to come forward and these cases are complex, obviously involving multiple jurisdictions."

Lane would not say how many alleged victims there are because of a publication ban. But he said police believe there are more than the ones who have already come forward and he's urging others to contact police or call the human trafficking tip line.
