Some mail that is delayed by the postal strike will be available at Access Nova Scotia centres starting Saturday, according to a release from the Department of Service Nova Scotia.

Those who have received a call about these items can pick them up at their nearest location using a valid government ID on Saturday between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. – aside from the Antigonish Access Nova Scotia centre for this weekend.

This list of essential items include:

  • Heating Assistance Rebate Program cheques.
  • Maintenance Enforcement Program cheques.
  • Seniors Care Grant cheques.
  • Property Tax Rebate for Seniors payments.
  • long-term care reassessment forms.

It may be possible to arrange pickup for another day. People can ask about other options when they are contacted by staff concerning their items.

Department of Community Services clients wondering about a cheque should contact their caseworkers directly.

A list of items that are not being collected or delivered for the time being include:

  • power bills.
  • federal government GST/HST rebate cheques.
  • passport applications.
  • holiday cards or gifts.

The department is telling people to use direct deposit or online services when possible.

Those who have not yet received a call concerning essential mail are asked to be patient. For more information during the strike, people can visit the Service Nova Scotia page for postal service disruption.
