Yukoners have claimed responsibility for the yarn-bombing of the Inuvik Community Greenhouse last week.

Jessica Vellenga and Amber Church of Whitehorse came forward Wednesday to admit they covered a pole outside the building in knitting.

They were in the N.W.T. town last week for the Great Northern Arts Festival.

Vellenga and Church are members of Yarn Bomb Yukon, a group which has in the past covered a truck, a DC-3 and a wooly mammoth statue in knitting.

Vellenga said the greenhouse was an easy choice for her latest project.

"I just love the vibrancy and the nutrition that it brings to Inuvik, and I think it's an inspiring place, so I thought I'd give it a bit of yarn bombing love," she said.

Greenhouse members are feeling that love. In fact, they want more.

"We're actually trying to see if there's people in our community who might do the other three poles," said Sarah Reaburn, chair of the greenhouse board.

"We were hoping that Jessica was actually an Inuvik resident. ... Sounds like we might have to pay for a plane ticket."

Jessica Vellenga said she hopes they've inspired some would-be yarn artists in Inuvik.
