Yukon wildfire burning close to gas plant
Two fires in area are more than 20,000 hectares in size each
Yukon Wildland Fire officials are keeping a close eye on two wildfires in the Watson Lake district.
They're estimated at more than 20,000 hectares each in size. One of them is burning about 20 kilometres from the Kotaneelee Gas Plant.
"On Wednesday, fire officials flew the area to access the fires a little closer and they met on the ground with staff at the plant and they updated the staff about the fire situation and the subsequent measures that may have to be taken if the fire moves any closer," said George Maratos is the Fire Information Officer.
Evacuation plans are in place in case the fire moves too close to the gas plant.
Meanwhile, work continues on the other priority fires in the territory.
They include the large fire burning in the Carmacks district and the two fires burning in and around Haines Junction.
