A Whitehorse same-sex couple is still waiting for a birth certificate for their son despite changes made to Yukon's Vital Statistics Act this spring.

The changes allow parents of the same sex to both be listed on their child's birth certificate.

Earlier this year, Whitehorse moms Cai Krikorian and Corinne Gurtler were told both their names couldn't be on their son's birth certificate unless one mom adopted him.

Yukon MLAs voted unanimously to amend the Vital Statistics Act in early May.

But nearly two months later, Krikorian and Gurtler still don't have a birth certificate for five-month-old Mirek. The couple says they're being told the paperwork is taking time as new forms have to be created.

Meanwhile they say they're continuing with a human rights case.

The Yukon Government isn't commenting.
