Yellowknife woman describes flight's landing in stormy black skies

As many Yellowknifers looked upward to watch the unusual thunderstorm overhead Wednesday evening, a dozen people on board a Canadian North plane were flying directly through it. 

Passenger Ali Ryan, an engineer who was flying home to Yellowknife from Taloyoak, described the descent to Trail's End's Allison Devereaux.

Ryan says they flew for about 10 to 15 minutes through pitch black darkness with flashes of lightning.

"The people from down south were like 'Is it like this normally in Yellowknife?'" Ryan says. "Even the people from Gjoa Haven and Taloyoak were asking 'Do you guys get dark down here?' and I was like 'nope.'"

She credits the crew for maintaining a calm atmosphere inside the plane despite the startling visuals outside.
