Yellowknife announces new city manager
John Collin will step into the role previously held by Sheila Bassi-Kellett

The City of Yellowknife says it has selected a new top administrator.
John Collin is expected to take over as city manager, the city announced Tuesday. The announcement comes five months after current city manager Sheila Bassi-Kellett announced she would be resigning this March.
Collin previously worked as the city manager for Saint John, N.B., and before that spent 35 years in the Canadian Armed Forces.
In a news release, Yellowknife Mayor Rebecca Alty said Collin's experience would be "a huge asset".
"I'm very pleased to welcome [Collin] to this critical role as Yellowknife moves forward with a number of important issues and priorities," she stated.
She also issued a thank-you to Bassi-Kellett.
In November, Bassi-Kellett told CBC she'd found it an honour to work as the city manager but, after seven years in the role, it was time to move on.
"There's so many things that I want to do that I don't really have time to do, given the demands of my position as city manager. The days are long and you're always on when you're in this role," she said at the time.
Collin will start as city manager effective April 9.
