RCMP lay child pornography charges against 2 men in different N.W.T. communities
N.W.T. RCMP have charged 24-year-old man in Tulita and a 22-year-old man in Fort Smith
A 24-year-old Tulita man was arrested Monday by N.W.T. RCMP on child pornography offences. The next day, RCMP arrested a 22-year-old man in Fort Smith on similar offences.
In two news releases Wednesday, RCMP announced the arrests came as a result of investigations by the territory's Internet Child Exploitation Unit. The two investigations are not related, said Julie Plourde, a media relations officer with the RCMP.
RCMP said they will not be releasing the Tulita man's name to protect the identity of the victim, citing the "size of the community and the nature of the charges."
That man is charged with sexual interference, possession of child pornography, and making child pornography. RCMP said they carried out a search warrant at the man's home, where police seized electronic devices.
In Fort Smith, police charged Marcus Bourke with two counts of luring and two counts of possession of child pornography after executing a search warrant for electronic devices at a residence in that community.
Police say Bourke was arrested without incident, and has since been released on "strict conditions." He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 20, 2020.
