The Jerry Cans and Saali Keelan will perform at a concert in Cape Dorset to help raise funds for the Kinngait Performing Arts Club and the music department of Peter Pitseolak high school.

The school burned down on Sept. 6, leaving the hamlet scrambling to find space for students and forcing organizations like the Kinngait Performing Arts Club (KPAC), that stored their equipment and instruments at the school, to replace their gear.

"There was a lot of different equipment at the school that burned down in the fire," said KPAC volunteer Louisa Parr.

"They also had a little recording studio that is also gone — everything that was in there is all gone, actually."

KPAC holds a weekly open mic  on Wednesdays in the hamlet. It's a popular event that Parr says brings an audience of up to 50 kids together each week.

"Throughout the night... some would leave and some would come, but now, since the fire, the numbers have gone up," said Parr.

This weekend, KPAC is hosting Saali Keelan of Saali and the Raven Hearts.

Keelan will be working with the non-profit organization to put on a few musical workshops for kids in the community. This Saturday, Keelan will be joined by acclaimed Nunavut band The Jerry Cans for a concert in the hamlet.

Tickets are on sale for $10 prior to the show or $15 at the door.
