CKLB Radio says lack of federal funding forcing them to shut down
A popular aboriginal radio station in the Northwest Territories is no longer on the air, at least until further notice.
CKLB Radio made the announcement online early Saturday morning. The Aboriginal radio station is run by the Native Communications Society of the Northwest Territories.
The online post says that as of Dec. 21, the society didn't get the promised funding for the 2012 fiscal year, adding that it is nine months overdue.
"Because of this, we have no choice but discontinue our broadcasting service."
The post did not say when the station, which broadcasts on 101.9 FM, will be back on the air.
No one from the Native Communications Society could be reached for comment.
