Peter Arrowmaker is serving a 90-day sentence for charges related to drunk driving and driving while disqualified. Now the Tlicho Government is looking for someone new to serve as government Speaker.
Peter Arrowmaker, the Speaker of the Tlicho Government, is serving a 90-day sentence for charges related to drunk driving and driving while disqualified, and is banned from driving until 2024.
Arrowmaker was appointed Speaker in 2007. Now the Tlicho Government is looking for someone new to do the job.
"We can't have a criminal being the speaker for our government," says Eddie Erasmus, Grand Chief of the Tlicho Government. "We have 4,000 Tlicho people that would like to have that job. It's not guaranteed he would be coming back as speaker for the Tlicho people, I can tell you that."
Erasmus says there will be an interim speaker when the government next meets at the end of May.
