N.W.T.'s Mikey McBryan to film documentary on NHL '94 video game

Ice Pilots NWT star Mikey McBryan is filming a new documentary, but it has nothing to do with airplanes, or even the North.

The film is about a classic video game: Sega Genesis's NHL '94. The game has developed a cult following among nostalgic videogamers.

"NHL '94 is basically going back to the beginning of hockey on video game systems," McBryan said.

"All of a sudden you put in this cartridge and you become an NHL star. You are playing against heroes like Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, and Patrick Roy. For a split second you feel apart of the NHL. And I think that was the original magic of the game."

McBryan will interview fans of the game from across Canada and the United States — with the hope of unlocking why the game resonates with so many gamers.

McBryan is no stranger to the game himself. He started playing at age 11 and says he had a 12-year unbeaten streak.
