Missing Japanese tourist was last seen heading to Jackfish Lake

Atsumi Yoshikubo, the Japanese tourist who went missing while visiting Yellowknife, was last seen on Wednesday walking along Highway 4 toward Jackfish Lake, RCMP say in a news release.

Atsumi Yoshikubo, 45, was reported missing yesterday by staff at the Explorer hotel.

The hotel's manager, Naresh Panchalingam, says Yoshikubo was checked in from Oct. 17 to the 24.

Panchalingam says her trip was organized by the tour operator Jonview Canada. 

When she arrived, she  inquired about aurora viewing tours, but was was told mostly everything was closed for the season.

Yoshikubo was scheduled to return to Japan on October 26, but she missed her flight.

In her room, staff found a regular sized suitcase and trinkets she'd purchased at a gallery in Yellowknife.

Yoshikubo is described as about 157 centimetres or 5 feet, 2 inches tall, about 45 kilograms, black hair and brown eyes.

When last seen, she was wearing a pink coat, a pink hat, black pants and white shoes.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the Yellowknife detachment at 867-669-1111.
