A missing person was found dead near the Ingraham Trail outside of Yellowknife Monday night, RCMP say.

Police said Lance Beaulieu had been missing from Yellowknife since Friday.

In a news release Tuesday morning, police said a ground search party found a body several kilometres outside of the city near the highway at around 6 p.m. the previous evening.

RCMP went to the area along with the coroner, and they have confirmed that the body was Beaulieu's.

"His family has been notified and our thoughts are with them at this time," wrote Const. Josh Seaward, a media relations officer for the RCMP in the N.W.T. "The RCMP would like to thank everyone involved in the search for their dedication."

Family members previously told CBC News they believed Beaulieu, 41, was last seen on the Dettah ice road. They had been organizing a search to find him, starting on Great Slave Lake near the Con Mine dock, on Monday afternoon.

Police did not say whether they consider the death suspicious, nor did they say anything about how Beaulieu may have died.

RCMP say they continue to investigate, along with the territory's chief coroner.
