Clyde River Mayor Jerry Natanine says he's seeking the NDP nomination as a candidate for Nunavut MP in this fall's federal election.

Natanine has been the public face of a recent fight to stop proposed seismic testing in Baffin Bay and Davis Strait. That work was recently postponed for this year.

If he's chosen, Natanine will run against current Conservative MP Leona Aglukkaq, who announced her candidacy back in January, and Green Party candidate Spencer Rocchi.

The Nunavut Liberal Association said an announcement about its candidate is expected in the next couple weeks.
