Nuqingaq was expelled from the legislative assembly last month. Fellow MLAs cited unacceptable conduct — including many absences from meetings.

"We look forward to having a new member before our next winter sitting," said deputy premier Monica Ell.

Nuqingaq also faces two criminal charges, including assault. His next court date is scheduled for Feb. 18 to plead.

Nuqingaq recently posted an open note on Facebook to those who voted for him, stating, he was "very sorry to disappoint all of you."
