Funeral to be held Saturday in Fort Simpson, N.W.T.
RCMP in Fort Simpson, N.W.T., have deemed the death of Billy Cholo, 45, a homicide, following a post-mortem examination in Edmonton.
Cholo's body was found in the community on Jan. 9 during a ground search.
RCMP say the Fort Simpson detachment and the Major Crimes Unit continue to investigate the crime, with help from a number of units from both “G” and “K” division and the N.W.T. coroner’s office.
Billy Cholo's uncle Edward Cholo says people from all over the Northwest Territories are on the way to the village for the funeral.
"I'm just waiting for the arrival of friends from other communities. I know that there's about 15 trucks coming in from [Fort] Providence, some from [Fort] Liard, Trout Lake, Kakisa. Shows how many friends he had and how much people cared."
The funeral will take place Saturday in Fort Simpson at 2 p.m.
