Alaska Highway crash victim ID'd as Heather Barnfield of Whitehorse

Heather Barnfield, 52, died in a motor vehicle incident near Fort St. John, B.C., on Mar. 5.

Camper-van collided with a tractor-trailer outside of Fort St. John, B.C.

The B.C. Coroners Service has released the name of a woman who was killed in a two-vehicle collision on the Alaska Highway last week.

Heather Marina Barnfield, 52, of Whitehorse died following the crash outside of Fort St. John, B.C., on Saturday, March 5. 

Barnfield was driving a camper-van southbound on the Alaska Highway at about 11 p.m. when her vehicle collided with a northbound tractor-trailer unit. The crash occurred on the Charlie Lake hill, about eight kilometres west of Fort St. John. 

Barnfield was declared dead at the scene. There were no passengers in her vehicle. Based on an initial report, the driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured. 

The B.C. Coroners Service said there were icy road conditions at the time of the incident. It and the RCMP are continuing to investigate.
