A weekend fire caused major damage to a nearly-completed house in Inuvik, N.W.T.
This isn’t the first blaze on the property. The home was being built on the ashes of a house that burned to the ground at the same Gwich'in Road address one year ago.
A cab driver alerted the fire department to the blaze just before 3 a.m. Sunday.
Fire chief Jim Sawkins said it started in some plywood next to the house and no one was in the home at the time.
"We are looking at a number of things, but specifically based on the time that the fire occurred and where it started, we're not ruling out foul play."
Sawkins said a gas can was found near the area where the fire started.
He estimates the damage at more than $175,000.
