What are you at? This is it: pottery whales
Steve Thorne is making a collection of whales found in N.L. waters out of clay pottery
As a pottery maker, Steve's Thorne's bread and butter is making mugs and plates, but he says he craved a new challenge.
"Sitting at the [pottery] wheel, watching it spin for a long time, you kind of drift off," said Thorne.
"So then I started thinking 'Well, what else can I make out of this?'"
"Well, whales are just a big tube."
Thorne is in the process of making 21 clay pottery whales, scale models of each species found in Newfoundland and Labrador waters.
Once he has completed his collection of whales, Thorne said he has another project in mind.
"I'm thinking about some of the fish. Like cod, and some of the pelagics."
