Knife-wielding suspect arrested after Seal Cove store owner injured during holdup

Shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday, the RNC say a disguised man attempted to hold up Seal Cove Grocery, but was held until officers arrived at the scene.

Store owner injured while detaining armed robber in attempted holdup

Police have made an arrest over an attempted armed robbery at a convenience store in Conception Bay South Wednesday night that saw the owner treated in hospital for an injury. 

Shortly before 10 p.m., police said a lone man attempted to hold up Seal Cove Grocery. 

When Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officers arrived at the scene, they found the man had been held by staff outside the store.

Police said the accused, who had his face concealed and had been carrying a knife, demanded cash. 

An altercation is believed to have taken place, during which one of the store owners got involved.

The owner suffered minor cuts from the knife. 

The 38-year-old suspect faces a string of charges, including armed robbery, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, disguised with intent, assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon.

The suspect was scheduled to appear in provincial court on Thursday.
