New firearm, assault charges laid against man charged with attempted murder in Port au Port
New information from police reveals snowmobiler was shot

Police have laid new charges against a 66-year-old man previously charged with attempted murder following shooting of a snowmobiler in Port au Port.
Charges against Wayne Harold Hynes were first laid on March 17. On Wednesday, police charged Hynes with several firearm charges including careless use, pointing a firearm, discharging with the intent to endanger and using a firearm to commit a criminal offence.
He also faces new charges of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.
The case started late last month, when police began investigating a report of a seriously injured snowmobiler on Gravel's Pond in Port au Port around 4:30 p.m. NT on Feb. 21.
Police originally said the man had fallen off the snowmobile when it came to a stop, suffering injuries not consistent with a fall. New information shared in a news release on Wednesday said the man was shot and suffered life-threatening injuries.
Hynes remains in police custody, and is next scheduled to appear in provincial court in Stephenville on Monday.
