Newfoundland and Labrador has seven federal ridings, and with just two incumbents seeking reelection, many of those headed to Ottawa will be new faces.

The federal election is less than two weeks away, and candidates on the west coast of Newfoundland have a lot of ground to cover. With Liberal MP Gudie Hutchings not seeking re-election, it means the district will have a first-time member of parliament. The CBC’s Colleen Connors met up with the Liberal and NDP candidates, while the Conservative hopeful spoke with CBC Radio.

It’s a riding that covers a large chunk of Newfoundland. Liberal Churence Rogers has held the seat since 2017, but he’s stepping away from politics and that means the riding will be sending a new representative to Ottawa. The CBC’s Terry Roberts spoke with Liberal candidate Anthony Germain and NDP candidate Liam Ryan, while Conservative candidate Jonathan Rowe wasn’t available for an interview.

There are over 76,000 votes to earn in Terra Nova-The Peninsulas, a riding that includes Bonavista, Clarenville and Marystown.
