Land & Sea is celebrating 50 years on the air this season.

CBC Newfoundland and Labrador librarian Carolyn Atkinson has been digging out old footage that hasn't been seen in years, including this rare look at a unique way of life.

Christening of the Newfoundland Falcon

The Newfoundland Falcon was one of four trawlers owned by North Eastern Fish Industries Limited of Harbour Grace.  They were built in Halifax and brought to this province between 1965 and 1969.

We don't have a lot of detail about this segment, but — as you can see — locals have gathered to see the christening of the new vessel.

We have an update on last week's story about fishing on Newfoundland's southwest coast. Maria Young called Land & Sea's Jane Adey and had a chat about her father Jim Hardy.
