A woman in St. John's attempted to rob a taxi driver at knife point early Wednesday morning, but the driver managed to disarm her.

A cab driver picked up Jennifer Pittman, 26, in the Ropewalk Lane area around 4 a.m. She asked to be taken to a home in the Mundy Pond area, a short distance away.

Once the cab arrived at the residence, however, police said Pittman pulled a knife on the driver and demanded cash.

The driver physically confronted Pittman and police said the driver was able to disarm her and call for help.

Police arrested the 26-year-old. She's due to appear in provincial court Thursday morning on charges of attempted robbery, assault with a weapon and uttering threats.

Police said the driver sustained minor injuries in the incident, but did not require medical attention.
