Bloc Québécois leader coming to St. John's
A professor at Memorial University of Newfoundland says there could be some difficult questions for the leader of the Bloc Québécois when he speaks in St. John's on Wednesday.
Gilles Duceppe will be speaking at Memorial University at noon. He's going to talk about the 20-year history of the Bloc Québécois.
A political science professor at the university said the visit should spark some interesting debate.
"This province in particular has had a history of issues with Quebec and I think whenever a Quebec politician visits these will be brought up and enunciated, within the context of a sovereign or federalist Quebec," said Christopher Dunn, a Memorial University Political Science Professor.
The talk in room EN-2006 is open to all students at Memorial.
Newfoundland and Labrador recently launched court action to try to compel Quebec to reopen the terms of a contract signed in the 1960s to sell hydroelectric power from the Churchill Falls facility in Labrador.
Newfoundland and Labrador argues the contract unfairly gives Quebec a greater share of the profits generated by Churchill Falls.
