Prostitution charges against 6 'Johns' dropped in Moncton

Prostitution-related charges against six men in Moncton were dropped on Monday, in light of the recent Supreme Court decision.

Canada’s top judges unanimously struck down the prostitution laws on Dec. 20 and gave Parliament a year to create new laws, if it chooses to.

The six men were arrested on Nov. 14, when Codiac Regional RCMP conducted a sweep in the Victoria Park and Dufferin Street areas, as part of an ongoing effort to curb sex trade activities in Greater Moncton.

They were all given promises to appear in Moncton provincial court on Monday. But the Crown withdrew the charges against them.

The men ranged in age from 38 to 78, police said.

Five of the men are from New Brunswick and one is from Nova Scotia.
