Odell Park disc golf course under expansion, confirms city
Resident tees off against development, but parks and trees manager says work approved in budget
The disc golf course at Odell Park in Fredericton is being expanded to 18 holes, says a City of Fredericton official.
City resident Penny Pacey raised alarm about trees being cut in the park for what she was told was an expansion of the disc golf course.
"As part of the change, some small trees and underbrush are being removed, as well as trees damaged last year by post-tropical storm Arthur," stated Murray in an email to CBC News.
The work was approved in the city's 2015 budget, said Murray.
The expansion effort is being led by the Fredericton Disc Golf Association.
Steven Seabrook, president of the Fredericton Disc Golf Association, said the trees in the park that are marked with pink ribbons for removal are mostly brush or damaged trees.
"The flagging tape was mostly brush but there were a few smaller trees flagged and of those trees, many were storm damaged," wrote Seabrook.
"Frankly, if you had asked to put that course in pre-hurricane Arthur, it probably would not have happened."
