Fredericton police found the body of a 24-year-old woman in the St. John River Sunday morning, after a car crash near the water on St. Anne's Point Drive two days earlier.

Marc-André Doucet, a 26 year old man from Fredericton, has been charged with impaired driving in connection with the single vehicle collision.

In a news release, police said speed and alcohol were factors in the crash, which happened just metres from the river.

The driver and passenger, who were the only people in the vehicle, were not wearing seatbelts, according to police.

Police confirm the deceased woman was in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Fredericton police have not released the victim's identity, other than to say she is from Fredericton.

But family members and friends held a candle light vigil Saturday night near the crash site for Jennifer Brewer.

The crash sent one man to Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. He was treated for minor injuries and released.

The 26-year-old man will appear in court Monday to answer to charges.

A Fredericton police underwater dive team had been searching the St. John river since Friday for the woman.

The investigation is ongoing.
