Marissa Shephard charged with assaulting guard at Miramichi jail
Shephard, 21, of Moncton, awaiting preliminary inquiry on murder, arson charges in death of Baylee Wylie

Marissa Shephard, who is charged with first-degree murder and arson in connection with the death of Moncton teen Baylee Wylie, is now also accused of assaulting a jail guard.
Shephard, 21, appeared in Miramichi provincial court on Monday to face a charge of assaulting a correctional officer at the New Brunswick Women's Correctional Centre on July 28.
The matter has been set over until Nov. 28 for election and plea.
Shephard is in custody awaiting a preliminary inquiry scheduled for May 1 on the murder and arson charges in the death of 18-year-old Wylie last December.
One of her co-accused, Devin Morningstar, 19, was found guilty on Friday of first-degree murder and arson with disregard for human life. The jury reached its verdict after 21 hours of deliberations over three days.
The trial heard Wylie, was bound in plastic wrap, severely beaten while tied to a chair, and stabbed up to 200 times. His body was found in the burnt out triplex on Sumac Street in Moncton on Dec. 17, 2015.
Morningstar is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 11. First-degree murder carries an automatic life sentence and no chance of parole for at least 25 years.
Tyler Noel, 19, is scheduled to stand trial for first-degree murder and arson in Wylie's death in October 2017.
Shephard has been in custody since March 1, when she was arrested in Moncton on a Canada-wide warrant. She had managed to elude police for 10 weeks.
