Heroin traffickers targeting Saint John, police chief says
Bill Reid's warning comes after Operation J Tornado saw 29 arrested in 3 provinces in September
Saint John’s police chief is concerned that heroin traffickers could be plotting to start selling the drug on city streets.
Saint John Police Chief Bill Reid told reporters on Monday night that he has credible information that drug traffickers are eyeing the city.
"I have some concerns that there are plans afoot to bring that substance into our community as a commodity,” he said.
“There is information that would suggest that there are folks looking to set up shop in Saint John."
Reid would not go into further detail about the current information police have on heroin or potential dealers in the city.
In September, Saint John police and federal agencies busted a major drug ring and seized heroin among other drugs and weapons.
Operation J-Tornado saw 29 people arrested in three provinces following a three-year investigation.
In September, the police said a Saint John group that was trying to establish itself as a primary supplier of heroin in the region was stopped.
