Geneviève Lalonde takes bronze in 3000 metre steeplechase

Geneviève Lalonde finished third in the 3000 meter steeplechase at the Pan Am Games in Toronto.

Moncton native Lalonde ran a time of 9:53:03 in her race at the Pan Am Games

Geneviève Lalonde finished third in the 3000 meter steeplechase at the Pan Am Games in Toronto. 

The Moncton native raced with a time of 9:53:03 on Friday night.

She was close with Tatiana Da Silva of Brazil for the third place spot, when Da Silva tripped over a steeple.

American Ashley Higginson won gold with a time of 9:48.12 and Shalaya Kipp, also from the U.S. took silver in 9:49.96.

Lalonde is having a strong season so far. She has qualified for the world championships, which will take place in Beijing this fall.

Lalonde hopes to race as a member of team Canada at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.
