If you're headed outdoors this weekend, you may want to bring your umbrella.

A rainfall warning is in effect for all of New Brunswick.

Northern and eastern regions of the province could see 20-40 millimetres of rain this weekend, Environment Canada says.

Southern regions of the province might see up to 70 millimetres.

Rain will taper to showers Saturday night and then to flurries Sunday.

Low-lying areas could see localized flooding, Environment Canada says.

The rain is less likely to be absorbed because the ground is frozen. Flash flooding can occur during heavy downpours.

Strong westerly winds could gust up to 90 km/h Sunday afternoon.

As of 4 p.m., a wind warning is in place for the Tantramar Marsh area and the Acadian Peninsula for Sunday morning and afternoon. Environment Canada issues wind warnings when there's significant risk of damaging winds.

The Fundy coast is expected to receive the highest rainfall amounts. On Friday, the city of Saint John asked residents to be cautious of the messy weather.

"Reduce driving speeds, keep headlights on, observe all posted signage and barricades and avoid any area that is covered in water," said a news release from the city.

A ferry departing Digby, N.S., at 5 p.m. Saturday and a ferry departing Saint John at 8 a.m. on Sunday were cancelled because of the weather.
