A second man has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of two people whose bodies were discovered in a burnt-out SUV in Chipman last fall.

Corey Agnew, 34, of Minto is accused of killing Robert Waugh, 47, and Victoria King, 23, who were from the Fredericton area.

New Brunswick RCMP said Agnew was arrested Tuesday morning at a home on Route 123 in Chipman and charged in Fredericton court on Wednesday.

Police say he was held in custody and will return to court on Feb. 20.

On Monday, RCMP said Mark Elley had been charged with two counts of first-degree murder of the two people. Elley was also held in custody and is expected to return to court Feb. 10.

The Mounties previously said Chipman RCMP responded on Nov. 25, 2024, at around 8 a.m. to a report that two people were inside a burning vehicle off Midland Road, about 60 kilometres northeast of Fredericton.

When officers arrived, they located the bodies of a man and woman inside a white Chevrolet Equinox "that had been consumed by fire." Police released the names of the two people on Jan. 6.
