Rino Maltais of Campbellton picked the ace of spades to win $1.3 million in Dalhousie's Chase the Ace.

There were six cards left in the deck when Maltais's ticket was selected from the thousands in the bin.

With ticket number 261255 picked and announced, Maltais, and his wife Danielle, made their way to the stage where Maltais picked the card.

Organizers built a special glass bin to hold all the tickets. A blindfolded person picked the winning ticket from the bin.

The money raised from the fundraiser will benefit the Recreaplex and Rotary Club in Dalhousie.

Maltais, and his wife Danielle, will split the $1,311,574 in winnings with her mother.

"My mother-in-law never won that much money for babysitting my kids,'' Maltais said in French.

The couple said they don't know exactly what they're going to do with the money, but they might travel, invest it, and save some for their kids education.
