AC/DC returning to Moncton's Magnetic Hill on Sept. 5

Australian rockers AC/DC will once again headline a major concert at the Magnetic Hill outdoor concert venue this summer.

The North American tour dates for the band’s Rock or Bust World Tour were released on Wednesday morning.

AC/DC will play in Moncton on Sept. 5, between stops in Ottawa on Sept. 3 and Detroit on Sept. 8.

The general admission tickets will be $109.50. The tickets go on sale on Feb. 16 at 10 a.m.

The City of Moncton and concert promoter Donald K. Donald unveiled the concert at a press conference on Wednesday morning.

Moncton Mayor George LeBlanc said city taxpayers are putting money into the AC/DC concert, but he would not say how much.

The mayor described the city's financial commitment to the mega-concert as "confidential commercial information."

"We are in a competitive business. We're competing with lots of other locations, no doubt that may have contributed to not having an act the last two years. So we want to be competitive," LeBlanc said.

"We want to have the opportunity to attract business — this big business to the city of Moncton. So we will certainly make as much information as we can — that is possible to make — public. Something that may be competitively sensitive we'll comply with whatever requirements of the Right to Information Act are."

He also noted the contract has not been finalized and there is no provincial money involved in the concert.

Moncton has blocked past attempts to get information about how much taxpayers put into the outdoor concerts.

In December 2012, the city manager said that disclosing how much bands or promoters were paid would put Moncton out of the concert business.

In 2011, Coun. Daniel Bourgeois said taxpayers have lost money on some of Moncton's previous outdoor concerts.

There have been no major concerts at the outdoor concert venue since Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band played in 2012.

This will be the second time that AC/DC has played in Moncton. The band stopped in New Brunswick in 2009.

It is estimated that 70,000 fans showed up the last time AC/DC played in Moncton.

Since 2003, the Magnetic Hill concert site has hosted shows by the Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi, the Eagles, AC/DC, U2 and Bruce Springsteen.
