Young man dies in fire in Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Que.

An 18-year-old man died on Saturday in an apartment building fire in Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, in the Laurentians, provincial police announced.

An 18-year-old man died on Saturday in a fire at an apartment building in Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, in the Laurentians, provincial police announced.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) said that around 4 a.m. emergency services were called to Saint-Henri Street East to respond to a fire in an apartment building. When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found a person who was unconscious.

The victim, an 18-year-old man, was in critical condition and taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Shortly after 9 a.m., firefighters were still working to control the blaze.

SQ spokesperson Ève Brochu-Joubert said nearly 10 residents were forced out of the building. Some of them were placed under the care of the Red Cross, she said.

Brochu-Joubert added that the major crimes unit will lead the investigation into the incident.
