Longueuil police are asking potential victims to come forward after they arrested and charged a local tutor for a sexual-related offence against a minor.

Setula Barthélemy Kalaky, 74, was arrested in February after a 10-year-old girl reported an alleged incident at his home, out of which he taught.

Court records show Kalaky faces one count of sexual interference — touching a person under the age of 16 for a sexual purpose. Kalaky was released with conditions following his arrest and will return to the Longueuil courthouse on April 22.

Kalaky is the owner of Elcodes Développement in Longueuil, Que., and tutored elementary and high school level students, police say. According to its website, the company also offers language classes to company employees and individuals.

Mélanie Mercille, a spokesperson for the Service de police de l'agglomération de Longueuil (SPAL), said police arrested Kalaky on Feb. 25 after the girl's parents reported him following an alleged incident earlier that month. The girl had received tutoring from him since 2022, police say.

"We think he could have more victims so that's why we're asking [for] the public's assistance today," Mercille said.

Police are asking parents who may recognize Kalaky to speak with their children and ask them if they've ever had an uncomfortable experience or felt embarrassed by a situation.

"I wouldn't lead necessarily by mentioning the man's name. I would go more general to know what happened," said Mercille.

Mercille advised parents looking for tutors to make sure sessions are held in their own home, adding that they should remain nearby, in the same room or on the same floor.

Mercille says that anyone who was a victim or who can provide more information can get in touch with investigators at 450-463-7211
