Montreal's police chief has confirmed his force has completed an internal inquiry into the behaviour of suspended officer Stéfanie Trudeau, better known by her badge number, 728.

Marc Parent said the results of that inquiry are to be turned over to the crown prosecutor's office.

Parent said nearly 30 police officers and 50 citizens were interviewed about Constable Stéfanie Trudeau, who made headlines following a heavy-handed intervention on Oct. 2.

Trudeau, known as Officer 728, was suspended from the police force immediately after videos of the altercation made their way onto the web.

In one of the videos, Trudeau is seen putting a man in a headlock and forcefully pulling him down a set of stairs.  She's overheard explaining the incident to a supervisor in an expletive-laced tirade.

Parent apologized for Trudeau's behaviour while discussing the suspension at the annual congress of Quebec's professional journalists' federation on Saturday in Saint-Sauveur, Que.

Trudeau first came to the public's attention last spring after she pepper-sprayed protestors who were taunting her but posing no physical threat during a student march against tuition fees.

Several other people came forward with complaints and anecdotes about their encounters with Officer 728 following Trudeau's suspension.
