Students in Prévost, Que., to get local high school
Over 1,200 young people would be able to remain in town for studies
The Quebec government is planning on building a $226-million high school in the town of Prévost, Que., about 73 kilometres northwest of Montreal.
The town of about 14,000 residents does not currently have a high school, forcing young students to commute to nearby municipalities for their education.
Premier François Legault, accompanied by Education Minister Bernard Drainville and Sonia Bélanger, MNA for Prévost, said at a news conference in the town on Monday that the school would have spots for 1,218 students split across 35 classes.
The building will also contain:
- Six laboratories.
- Seven art classrooms.
- One auditorium.
- Two gyms.
- One football field.
Legault said it isn't ideal that children have to bus to other towns, day and night, to attend classes.
Construction on the high school is scheduled to start in May. The government hopes it will be up and running by the fall of 2028.
