Montreal police have arrested a third suspect in connection with the murders of a woman and her granddaughter in a home in the Sud-Ouest borough over two years ago.

The suspect, a 21-year-old woman, was arrested in Terrebonne on Montreal's North Shore on Sunday night, with the help of local police, said the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).

She appeared at the Montreal courthouse on Monday and faces charges of manslaughter and conspiracy to escape, according to the SPVM.

On Dec. 15, 2022, at around 2:40 a.m., police say they received a call after gunshots were heard in an apartment on Mullins Street in the Pointe-Saint-Charles neighbourhood.

When they arrived at the scene, police discovered two victims inside an apartment. Huguette Racette, 73, and her 22-year-old granddaughter, Jade Beaulieu Racette, were found suffering from gunshot wounds.

The older woman was pronounced dead at the scene while the younger woman was rushed to hospital, where she later died.

Shell casings were found inside the apartment, said the SPVM.

In November 2023, Montreal police arrested two men, ages 18 and 23. Both were charged with first-degree murder.

The 18-year-old, who was a minor at the time of the event, is also facing murder charges in another case.
