Retired NHL enforcer Jim Kyte instigated an off-ice fight with Gallagher on Saturday by suggesting that the Habs' player had no honour.
Brendan Gallagher, Brad Marchand, and players of their ilk are the reason I don't watch many @NHL games anymore #nohonor #noaccountability

Gallagher quickly called Kyte out later that afternoon.
The 23-year-old Edmonton native tweeted video from Kyte's fighting days with the Winnipeg Jets in 1985.
@jimkyte please mr.kyte do tell us more about all the honour you played the game with... https://t.co/JMUWy8RIAp

Kyte fired back, saying that he had only been standing up for a teammate during that game where he punched former Pittsburgh Penguins' star Mario Lemieux in the face.
He also accused Gallagher of playing dirty on purpose.
@BGALLY17 Spearing in a scrum, hitting the goalie on purpose, etc., are things you and your ilk do on a regular basis in today's @NHL

Gallagher was having none of Kyte's criticisms as he cheekily quipped that the game had evolved since Kyte's days.
The Twitter feud escalated quickly.
@jimkyte luckily for the fans the game has evolved into a fast paced skilled exciting game and has weeded out jim Kyte caliber players

Kyte, who describes himself as an "opinionated NHL alumnus", didn't go easy on Gallagher.
He suggested that Gallager lacked the talents to play at a professional level.
@BGALLY17 LMAO! Wow - good one. The instigator rule is the ONLY reason you are not playing in Europe.
—@jimkyte
The Habs' player taunted Kyte, saying that he was lucky they never met on ice.
Gallagher's tweets ended there but not before Kyte made one last dig.
@BGALLY17 You wouldn't have survived the first training camp scrimmage in my era. Even Guy Charbonneau would have put you in the hospital.
