Man shot dead in Westmount
A man in his twenties is dead after he was shot during an altercation in Westmount Wednesday night.
Police constable Anie Lemieux said the 22-year-old unnamed man was shot in the upper body at around 10:45 pm outside 335 Clarke Ave. between de Maisonneuve Blvd. and Sherbrooke St.
The shooting took place following an argument at the building where the victim apparently lived.
Lemieux said the victim and the suspect got into a fight in the lobby which then spilled on to the street.
"The only information we have is that a suspect was seen running off -- maybe getting into a car. We have no description on the suspect or the car," Lemieux said.
The major crimes squad has set up a perimeter as well as a command post outside the building.
This is the first murder on Montreal territory this year. There were 37 murders in 2010.
