Environment Canada issued a freezing rain warning for western, central and part of southern Quebec with precipitation expected to last for "several hours" on Sunday.

Areas covered by the warning are expected to receive between 5 and 10 millimetres of ice accretion. Some regions could see up to 15 millimetres, according to the agency.

After a grey and wet morning, the agency dropped its freezing rain warning for the Montreal area in the afternoon.

As for the Quebec City area, freezing rain is forecasted starting Sunday evening and will continue overnight.

Environment Canada says to be wary of icy highways, roads, walkways and parking lots. Ice build-up can also cause tree branches to fall.

It also issued a storm surge warning for the Quebec City area coastline, saying that higher than normal water levels and possible flooding are expected Monday morning.

A winter storm warning was issued for the Abitibi area where Environment Canada says people can expect between 20 and 30 centimetres of snow. Further north, in the Matagami and Chibougamau areas, the agency is forecasting between 15 and 25 centimetres of snow.
